What is different about learning at Karis Academy?

The learning at Karis Academy doesn’t stop at quickly delivering knowledge. We start from questions and stay with the process of reflection, ultimately pursuing a journey that takes us together to the point where our direction in life changes. Classes are not a time to consume information; they are a time to ask ourselves again. Through repetition, the learning becomes internalized and leads to determination, and only then does the learning become a life. Karis Academy is a space for learning that accompanies this process.

• Knowledge → Direction

Learning at the Karis Academy is not about knowing more knowledge; it is about discerning where to go in life. While knowledge can only be accumulated to the extent that it obscures the way, direction makes life simpler. We ask not about accumulating information; rather, we ask what to follow and what to take responsibility for. Learning is not about filling the mind; it is about setting the compass of life straight.

• Information → Formation

The learning at Karis Academy doesn’t stop at delivering information. Information can provide immediate understanding, but it doesn’t change people. We believe that learning is the process of creating thought habits, shaping attitudes, and rearranging life structures. Learning is an internal event that forms within people over time, not just the consumed content.

• Speed → Repeat

It is possible to learn quickly, but to live deeply is impossible without repetition. Karis Academy does not aim for efficiency or speed. Instead, we choose the slow learning process of asking the same questions again, repeating the same thoughts, and verifying them in life. Repetition is not a retreat; it is the surest path to becoming one’s own being.

Learning that shapes the direction of life, not the accumulation of knowledge

Nietzsche spoke of the will to power, Marx of the force of matter, Freud of the will to pleasure, and Sartre of self-constitution; the Karis Academy, however, teaches the art of avoiding grace.
